Trump encourages invaders; Biden says that the disorder ‘has to end now’

São Paulo – The elected president of the United States, the Democrat Joe Biden, said that democracy is being attacked “as never before” in American history. Biden responded to the invasion of the US Congress by followers of the current president, Republican Donald Trump, on Tuesday afternoon (6). At the session, parliamentarians would ratify Biden’s electoral victory at the polls in November. “I need to be clear. We see a small group of extremists. This does not reflect who we are. This is disorder, and not to disagree. It’s chaos. This needs to end now. I ask that this crowd withdraw and allow democracy to advance, ”he said. And he called the invasion of the American Congress “an attack on the interest of the people”.

On Twitter, Donald Trump had distributed messages in which he did not condemn the invasion. On the contrary, he told the protesters to remain peacefully in the House. This is because he used the words “WE are the Party of Law and Order, respect the Law and our great men and women in blue”.

Joe Biden reacted: “The words of a president can inspire, or at worst, incite. I ask Trump to go on national television to keep his oath and defend the constitution. Ask for the end of this circus ”, he said. The invasion of the US Congress by extremists occurred on the afternoon when the results in Georgia – a traditional stronghold of the Republicans – confirmed the two vacancies that assured the majority of the Democratic Party, already reached in the House, also in the Senate.

Wars and suffering

Following Biden’s speech, Trump again posted a video on Twitter in which he reaffirmed his belief that he would have been “stolen” in the election, before asking without much conviction that his followers leave the Capitol. Trump said: “I know you are in pain. I know it hurts. We had an election stolen from us. Everyone knows that. Especially the other side. But you have to go home now. We need peace. We need law and order. We don’t want anyone hurt. It is a difficult period. It is very hard when they take something from us all. From me, from you, from all over the country. It was a fraudulent election. But we are not going to play in the hands of these people. Go home. Love you. You are special. You have been treated badly in a bad way. I know how you feel. But they go home. And go in peace ”.

“They invaded the Capitol. They broke offices. This is not a protest. They are threatening representatives. The world is watching this like many Americans. I am sad and shocked. We have always been a beacon for democracy and we have reached that sad moment, ”said Joe Biden. The president-elect cited that the country has “gone through wars and suffering”.

“But that we have to restore democracy, decency, the law. The certification of the votes of the Electoral College (agenda of the session of the American Congress at the time of the invasion) is a sacred ritual. This is because it reaffirms the majesty of democracy in the United States. Today, democracy is fragile. Preserving democracy requires leaders to rise, ”said Biden. “America is better than that. Seeing these scenes on Capitol Hill, I remember Abraham Lincoln. He said that we need to be noble to save Earth’s best hope. The way is fair and generous. ”
