Renault wants to discount its mistakes on workers, says Industriall Global Union

São Paulo – Renault laid off 747 workers from its factory in São José dos Pinhais, metropolitan region of Curitiba. According to the Industriall Global Union, the decision is unilateral and leaves the mistakes made by the company itself to the employees.

According to the secretary general of the Industriall Global Union, Valter Sanches, the company uses the pandemic as an excuse to dismiss workers. “Renault wants to restructure, after making the wrong choice, and nowhere in the world has it interrupted negotiations unilaterally”, he criticized, in an interview with Glauco Faria, in Current Brazil Newspaper.

The wrong choice, according to Sanches, is the company’s inability to keep up with changes in the auto industry. The leader also adds that the almost 800 layoffs hurt agreements and laws of the state of Paraná.

“It is violating several issues, such as a state law in Paraná that does not allow mass layoffs in companies that receive tax incentives. Our entity still has two global agreements with Renault, one of which allows restructuring only after negotiations with unions. And the resignation decision was unilateral, they are taking advantage of the pandemic moment to make the cuts ”, added Sanches.

Strike

Last Tuesday (21), workers at the Renault plant determined a strike. According to the Metalworkers Union of Greater Curitiba, the automaker “simply informed” about the layoffs, when negotiations were expected to resume.

Last Friday (17), an assembly rejected a proposal that included a plan for voluntary layoffs. The union gave the company 72 hours to resume negotiations, but instead the announcement of the cuts came.

Union centrals released this Wednesday (22) note of support to Renault metallurgists. The entities say they repudiate the “uncompromising” stance of the management. “We know that the company has received tax incentives from the government of the state of Paraná exactly to generate and maintain jobs”, they highlight in the note.
