Post strike may end this Friday (21)

São Paulo – The postal strike may last until next month or end this Friday (21), depending on the outcome of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) judgment on the reinstatement of the Superior Labor Court (TST) 2019. According to the secretary general of the Federation of Workers in Postal and Telegraph and Similar Companies (Fentect), José Rivaldo, if the decision is favorable to workers, the forecast is that already next Monday (24), a meeting is held and the suspension is suspended.

Striking for four days, the category charges the maintenance of social clauses – with the exception of the health plan – approved in 2019 by the TST. As well as the duration, in two years, of the collective agreement. Last year, the president of the Supreme Court, Dias Toffoli, granted an injunction to the Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company (ECT), suspending the decision. In possession of this injunction, according to Rivaldo, the president of Correios, General Floriano Peixoto, cut a series of rights from the current collective agreement.

According to the management of the state-owned company, the objective would be “to ensure the rebalancing of the company’s financial cash”. Yesterday, the RBA showed Fentect’s complaint that the Post Office released pay stubs with data “that do not represent the real earnings of employees”, which would have discounts of almost R $ 800 on the payroll. In an interview with Glauco Faria, from Current Brazil Newspaper, the entity’s secretary general added that the state-owned company had an increase in the volume of deliveries of more than 30%, in the midst of the pandemic, due to the online shopping services.

Against privatization

Also according to Rivaldo, the maintenance of the agreement does not harm the company that had an increase in revenue, reaching, until May this year, almost R $ 400 million in profit, points out the federation. “In return, General Floriano Peixoto wants workers to pay the bill.” Last week, Toffoli kept his vote, and was accompanied by Minister Edson Fachin. Fentect, however, says it believes in the “sensitivity of the other ministers”.

The mobilization also marks the category’s opposition to the privatization proposal of the state-owned company. The intention to sell the company has already been expressed by President Jair Bolsonaro himself. The argument is that it would lower tariffs. The Correios, however, now have the cheapest rates when compared to similar services provided by companies in the private sector. In addition to having a monopoly on the letter delivery service, which reaches 40% of the company’s revenue, according to the federation.

“The Post Office ends up regulating this market, if it didn’t have it, prices would be impractical for those who live farther away. The company being privatized only interests those who operate in the market ”, highlights Rivaldo.

São Paulo – Union centrals will return to the streets next Tuesday (3), for an act in São Paulo, in front of the headquarters of the Central Bank, on Avenida Paulista. On the centrals’ agenda is the maintenance of emergency aid in the amount of R $ 600 and the exemption from payroll so that companies can react to the effects of the pandemic and keep jobs. The demonstration is scheduled for 11am.

The issue of R $ 600 emergency aid has been the subject of a campaign by the exchanges since September, when the government issued Provisional Measure (MP) 1,000. The benefit was extended until December, but the Planalto cut the amount in half, to R $ 300. The opposition in the Chamber and the centrals want the MP to enter the agenda, which has been obstructed for a month. This week, the President of the House, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), said he could include the topic on the agenda.

The maintenance of tax relief for 17 sectors of the economy was vetoed by Jair Bolsonaro. At first, it ends in December. But Congress is mobilizing to overturn the veto. The president of the Senate and Congress, Davi Alcolumbre (DEM-AP), scheduled for next Wednesday (4) a joint session to analyze presidential vetoes and bills.

Positive for covid

The president of Força Sindical, Miguel Torres, tested positive for covid-19. On video, he said he had no serious symptoms and was breathing normally. Already medicated, he will be quarantined at home. With the confirmation, the manager’s family is conducting tests.
