Luis Arce creates tax on large fortunes

Published

on

BrasildeFato – On Monday (28), the president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, enacted Law 1,357, which creates a tax on wealth greater than 30 million Bolivians (local currency) – the equivalent of approximately R $ 22.3 millions.

The new annual and permanent taxation for everyone living in the country, including foreigners, had already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies by a large majority. The tax will be paid by 152 millionaires.

The law establishes gradual percentages for the payment of the rate.

For people with a wealth of 30 million to 40 million Bolivians,
for example, the rate is 1.4%. For those who have between 40 and 50
million, 1.9%.

The tax for citizens who have fortunes greater than these values is 2.4%.

The measure applies only to people who have stayed in Bolivia for more than 183 days in the last 12 months.

In his Twitter, Arce stressed that the approval of the law is a way to redistribute wealth in Bolivia and that the money collected “will reach thousands of Bolivian families”.

The estimate of the Ministry of Economy is that, with the taxation of
great fortunes, about 100 million Bolivians are raised.

Income redistribution

Also on Monday night (18) the leader of the Movement to Socialism (MAS) enacted the Effective VAT Restitution (Value Added Tax) Law.

With the new measure, people with an income of less than 9,000 Bolivians,
approximately R $ 6,715, will be reimbursed with 5% of the total of their
purchases upon presentation of the computerized invoice.

Thus, considering the minimum wage of 2,100 Bolivians (R $ 1,567), the Effective VAT Restitution Law directly benefits the middle and lower classes.

To access the benefit, individuals must register with SIN, the body responsible for taxing taxes in Bolivia, and compute all purchase invoices with their name and identity document.

In enacting the laws, Arce endorsed that the measures “dismantle the
neoliberal model and resume the Community Social Economic Model
Productive”.
