From ‘Goat marked to die’, Elizabeth Teixeira is vaccinated to live

São Paulo – Goat Marked to Die is a documentary that brought together pieces of Brazilian history and its own history to be completed. Filmed by Eduardo Coutinho, it tells the story of the peasant leader João Pedro Teixeira, who was shot in the back in 1962, in the interior of Paraíba. Coutinho’s work had to be stopped in 1964, because of the coup – when part of the team was arrested. It only started again in 1981, to be completed in 1984, 20 years later.

In the film, the figure of Elizabeth Teixeira, João Pedro’s widow, stands out. Now, at the age of 96, the former rural leader received, on the 19th, the first dose of the vaccine against covid-19, in an image recorded by Wyliana, her granddaughter, and published on Wednesday (24). She currently lives in the Cruz das Armas neighborhood in João Pessoa. The record was also released by the Memorial of the Peasant Leagues, and even shared by filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho, one of the film’s directors Bacurau, who referred to Elizabeth as “one of the great Brazilians in history”.

Violence in the countryside

The coup had not yet ended, but land conflicts have always been a reality in the country. The goat named João Pedro, leader of the Leagues in Sapé, Paraíba, was assassinated during the João Goulart government. And Elizabeth was threatened with death several times. Widowed and with 11 children, she changed her name and went to live clandestinely in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte. The filming of Goat in the 1960s they were made at the Galileia mill, in Vitória de Santo Antão (PE). The film “resumes” in São Rafael (RN).

At the time, Eduardo Coutinho still worked for the program Globo reporter. The documentary career would take off years later, with films like strong Saint (1999), Master Building (2002), Pawns (2004) and Scene Game (2007), among others. It has become a Brazilian and international reference. He died tragically in 2014, at the age of 80. Elizabeth continues to make history.

Argentine President contaminated by covid-19 and fulfills isolation

São Paulo – The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, informed on social media that he tested positive for covid-19, after showing symptoms of the disease. He said he is in isolation and has warned people with whom he has had contact in the past 48 hours. And he also reported that he had 37.3ºC of fever, in addition to feeling a slight headache.

The announcement was made this Saturday (3), the day after Fernández turned 62. “For everyone’s information, I am physically well and, although I wanted to end my birthday without this news, I am also in a good mood,” said the president.

He received the first dose of the vaccine (Sputnik) in January. The second, the following month. “I’m fine, I don’t have any symptoms. Only this fever from yesterday that I reported ”, he declared to the newspaper Clarín. “It is a very complicated virus, and the demonstration is that I got infected, even though I was vaccinated with both doses and with extreme care,” he added.

Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who received the second dose of the vaccine today, sent a message of support to “Daqui do Brasil I send good energy, hoping for its prompt recovery. May soon overcome this disease to continue caring for the Argentine people. Hugs, mate! ”He wrote.
