São Paulo – “The date has come for those of my age, I had the vaccine,” wrote Caetano Veloso on a social network. The 78-year-old singer-songwriter – turning 79 in August – took his first dose (Oxford / AstraZeneca, he said) yesterday (4), in Rio de Janeiro. “I always think that getting vaccinated is the right thing. In three months I will take the second one ”, he said, alongside his wife, and also a businesswoman, Paula Lavigne.

The second dose was taken by Elza Soares, 90 years old. She mourned for the victims. “That hurt! Not in the flesh, but in the chest. It hurt and hurts when I think of people who won’t have the same chance of getting the vaccine in time. How many families dreamed of this scene, but there was no time, ”he wrote on Twitter.

“I wanted to celebrate (the second dose), but it would not be fair, ”added Elza. “My heart is with you.”

Just yesterday, also singer and songwriter Paulinho da Viola took his first dose. He is the same age as Caetano – will complete 79 in November. In his Instagram, the sambista stated that “the joy of being vaccinated contrasts with the sadness of knowing that every day so many lives are being lost”.

He then asked people to take care of himself, and thanked health workers. “The only tool we have is care and the vaccine. Be sure to get vaccinated when your turn comes, ”said Paulinho. “I would like to express my thanks to those who work tirelessly to give us hope, to health professionals, to SUS, Instituto Butantan and Fiocruz. May more vaccines arrive as soon as possible to all Brazilians. ”
