São Paulo – The Public Ministry of Labor (MPT) received 93,707 complaints of violations of rights in 2020. Of this total, 36,010 (38%) were related to covid-19. Thus, according to the MPT, there were almost 100 complaints per day “arising from the impacts of the new coronavirus on the world of work”. The data is still preliminary, and should be detailed in the coming days. Among the complaints are disrespect for protocol measures and provision of protective equipment.
Also according to the Public Ministry, more than 22 thousand civil inquiries were opened to investigate labor irregularities. And 9,810 (44%) were about Covid.
In addition, the MPT broke a record for recommendations: there were 21,098 last year, compared to just 2,861 in 2020. Most (63%) also focused on the pandemic, “with measures to prevent and combat the disease aimed at different professional categories , in the 13,482 recommendations sent to employers ”. There were also 153,403 orders and 195,857 notifications, letters and requests.
“This performance related to Covid-19 also resulted in 353 signed terms of conduct adjustment and 407 public civil actions filed”, informs the MPT. The Prosecutor’s Office prepared technical notes on the activities of teachers and health workers, in addition to home office, call center and domestic services, among others.
The Labor Prosecutor’s Office cites an agreement signed with the startup Rappi. The application delivery company “has pledged to adopt a series of measures aimed at protecting couriers against Covid-19, in addition to providing financial assistance to those diagnosed or who present a certificate that proves the need for social isolation.”
